The conversation is as vivid as if it happened yesterday. A few high school friends and I were discussing what we wanted to do in life. I surprised myself and everyone else by saying, “I want to be a brain surgeon.” It wasn’t a lifelong goal. It was a spur of the moment boast but it stuck in my head. Those careless words directed much of my life for the next decade.
Read MoreI fell into a marriage with addiction, by fall, I mean, fell head over heels. I didn't want to live a perfect life, and I loved the party. I have always found going to a bar to be more enjoyable than Bible study. When I was first introduced to drugs, I thought they were fantastic. Aside from the fact that my parents were going to kill me, for the first time in my life, I wasn't shrouded in insecurity. The alternative crowd, the everything-in-moderation mentality, the excitement of the rave- it made me feel like I could be myself; darkness and all.

Sex.” It’s also available on Amazon if you’d like a hard copy.

“Why?” You ask? Or maybe it’s more like, “I told you so!” Well, that’s why! Because you told me so. You’re right!

There are many distinctions in the Bible between sickness and demonic activity/possession. It is fair to say a demon can make someone sick, it is also fair to say that not everyone who is sick is demon-possessed.

My family and I watched some of our old family movies over Christmas. It was so special! We took all our old VHS movies home for the kids to watch and set up the VHS in their room with a tv intended only for retro fun (they had no idea what a VHS was. “What?! It’s STILL not done rewinding?!”).
This video my parents took was stuck in my head.
“Mama, can you see me? Because I can’t see you.”

In general, I am okay.
I’m a fairly positive sort of person so I don’t have trouble on a daily basis with discouragement.
…but every once in awhile, I see something or hear something and it makes me sad!
I saw a post on Instagram awhile ago and it was by a young vlogger. I want to highlight some things…

Read MoreAre you familiar with the comic strip “Keeping up with the Joneses”? It was written by Arthur (aka “Pop”) Momand and ran from approximately 1913 to 1938. This comic depicted the McGinis family struggling to keep up with the lifestyle of their neighbors, the Jones family (who are never actually seen in the comic). This comic popularized the catchphrase “Keeping up with the Joneses”, which refers to people’s tendency to judge their own social standing according to that of their neighbors.
Read MoreWe climb the societal ladder claiming labels along the way. We think those things will make us happy, but we’re disappointed when we realize these labels cannot fulfill our hearts. In other ways, we look for wholeness. We may criticize our spouses because of everything they aren’t doing because we think we’d feel better if they did. Or, we criticize ourselves and make plans to lose weight or buy something we think will fill us up. Our unending cycle of searching only stops when we find God. Being a part of the Kingdom of Heaven is where we find true love and wholeness that the world can’t give.
